Meet
Sherita

Sherita is known for her tireless work ethic. Despite humble beginnings, she persevered, becoming a first-generation college graduate, law school graduate, and attorney.  Her faith and deep belief in herself have led her.  Navigating a career without inherited guidance taught her to lead from experience, learn from every challenge, and carve a path not just for herself, but for others.

Sherita has a steady moral compass and an unwavering belief in doing what is right. That belief guided her toward a career in prosecution, where doing the right thing was not just a job requirement but also aligned with her core values. Sherita understands the critical role prosecutors play in the criminal justice system. She wants to serve as the District Attorney for Wake County to make a lasting positive impact on the community and the people who serve it.  Her vision is to lead an office that the public can trust—one that reflects their shared values and helps keep Wake County a place where people want to live, work, and raise their families.

Sherita is a seasoned attorney with over 20 years of legal experience, including service as a prosecutor and defending clients in administrative matters. She is a wife, a mother of two, an aunt, and a sister–the youngest of two children raised by her late mother, who instilled in her faith, strength, and resilience. That foundation continues to shape who she is and what drives her as a person.  She was born and raised in New York. Like many others seeking a better quality of life, Sherita moved here from out of state and has proudly called Wake County home for the past ten years.

PRIORITIES

1

Promote Public Safety
I will prioritize the prosecution of violent crimes — including gun violence, sexual assault, and domestic abuse — to safeguard our communities. Ensuring the safety of Wake County residents will always remain at the core of my work.

2

Administer Justice with Integrity and Compassion
Every person who enters the justice system — whether victim, defendant, attorney, or community member — deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness. I’m committed to a system where everyone feels heard and no one is invisible.

3

Foster Transparency in Prosecutorial Decisions
Building trust starts with openness. I will implement transparent practices, such as public case outcome reporting, accessible information about office guidelines and policies, and regular community listening sessions to ensure the public understands how and why decisions are made.

4

Pursue Effective Criminal Justice Reform
I will expand access to diversion and prevention programs that reduce recidivism and support long-term success — including mental health diversion and youth intervention programs.

5

Strengthen and Support the Office
Wake County is the largest and one of the fastest-growing counties in North Carolina. I will work to expand staffing, invest in professional development, and secure the resources our Assistant DAs need to deliver timely and effective justice for all.
